With WMPG’s recently concluded semi-annual Begathon drive, one way the Java Jive DJs want to thank and say “We love you!” for all your support is to wind up March’s Women’s History Month featuring 5 mornings—(6:30am – 8:30am) — of feminine sound from some of the brightest stars in the Constellation Musica.
We’ll kick off the week in sonic style catching Betty Carter & Ella Fitzgerald breezily scatting their way through Kathy G’s ‘Fascinating Rhythms’ on Monday.
Brother John’s ‘Grooveyard Shift’ sets sail with Cesaria Evora’s bluesy mornas plus jazzy journeys on Regina Carter’s violin on Tuesday.
Lars on Weds.’ ‘Good Morning Vibes’ will paint ears with brushstrokes of Free Jazz Movement Icon, Carla Bley and Joni Mitchell whose passions for art, songwriting and vocals symmetrically nourish & flourish together.
Billie Holiday has one of the most recognizable, soul on soul voices in music and to this day touches and influences music lovers as well as songstresses such as Amy Winehouse, the eclectic Londoner who creatively fuses jazz, R&B, soul and pop to create a sound uniquely hers. They’ll both be spinning on Steve’s ‘Hukkin’ a Chainek’ Thursday.
Debonair won’t be foolin’ around Friday on ‘Morning Street’ when she cruises with West Coast Cool School Cum Laude, Anita O’Day and Mary Lou Williams whose arranging and composing styles adapted to, thrived in and influenced many as she navigated multiple eras of 20th century jazz.
And there’s more. Much more.
Tune in March 28 – April 1 Monday – Friday (6:30am – 8:30am) or listen at your leisure at our archive, as your Java Jive hosts thank community & colleagues alike for all you’ve done for WMPG when we apply to the musical morning airwaves and earwaves, a woman’s touch.
