Audio Archives
Description
The disc jockey’s primary tool is context. What does one record say about the next? Is it possible to elevate a pop song by mixing it with serious music? To challenge our perceptions of either. Can we bridge generational rifts by celebrating the history of recorded audio? Will we let language barriers or genre preferences segregate our record collections?
“As far as consistency of thought goes, I prefer inconsistency.”
– John Cage
Curated and hosted by David Rogers-Berry (D R B), Signal Boost is mostly concerned with the intersection of avant-garde sound and popular songs. Vinyl records, cassette tapes, compact discs, and digital files are the primary sources. Track selections range from obvious to the obscure, with some minor preference given to music that holds historical relevance to one cannon or another.
“Value judgments are destructive to our proper business, which is curiosity and awareness.”
– John Cage
