Local Motives at WMPG returns tonight (Friday) with a live session by local band Luniere . Songwriters Calen Perkins, Jason Roman and Geoff Zimmerman met at a coffee shop open mic. What began as a weekly sharing of original songs evolved into a full-fledged band. They added drummer, Eric Landau one year later. They now draw from their wide range of musical tastes to collaborate under the name “Luniere” on original songs that showcase vocal harmonies, pop, rock…

This past Thursday the Recovery Oriented Campus Center and WMPG radio featured music, stories of recovery, and conversations about getting support. We were taking call-ins throughout the broadcast. We hate to do this again but due to the increase in Covid-19 cases we are postponing our annual Record/CD sale until the spring. We are still accepting donations for the sale but unfortunately we just have to be careful with this and as anyone who has been knows, it gets very crowded at the sales tables. This week we had musicians, singers and drummers from West Guinea, Rwanda and Burundi in our studio to talk about their event – Tales of Bells & Drums is an event organized by Ikirenga Cy’intore and in collaboration with Batimbo United and New Moon Ensemble.  Stories of their lives are told through dancing and drumming. Calling all Middle and High-schoolers! Join the Portland Public Library and Blunt Youth Radio  for a workshop to learn how to make your own audio stories about the topics that matter to you! You’ll use professional audio recording equipment, conduct audio interviews, and edit your interviews into a polished audio story.
