WMPG Community Advisory Board (CAB)

The Community Advisory Board provides community input to the WMPG Management Team

Happy Pride from WMPGWMPG’s Community Advisory Board helps WMPG achieve its mission and serves as an effective mechanism for community input into the planning and decision-making of the station.

Community Advisory Board responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing and assisting the WMPG management team to develop and implement a strategic plan, ensuring that it aligns with WMPG’s mission.
  • Reviewing the service provided by the station by serving as a sounding board to the WMPG management team for the station’s public-facing product decisions such as radio output, website, and events.
  • Providing feedback to the WMPG management team regarding FCC compliance.
  • Providing feedback on WMPG’s quality and content.
  • Reviewing and commenting on significant policy decisions rendered by the station.
  • Advising the WMPG management team on whether the station’s programming and other significant policies are meeting the diverse needs of the communities served by the station.

WMPG’s Community Advisory Board is now accepting applications!

This is your chance to be heard. Members include USM students, faculty, staff, and administration, WMPG listeners/community, and WMPG volunteers. Members of the WMPG management team are permanent members.

We’re looking for passionate, community-minded WMPG listeners to help guide our efforts to tell local stories, amplify local voices, play incredible music, and keep us connected to our friends, family, and neighbors in Portland, the great state of Maine, and beyond!

WMPG’s Community Advisory Board meets 3 times a year to give feedback on the station’s programming, policies and how well we’re serving the information, entertainment and educational needs of the many communities that listen to our station.

While the advisory board does not exercise any control over the management or operation of the station, it is a wonderful way to get involved and help shape the future of your community radio station.

How do I join?

Fill out the online application. The Community Advisory Board reviews all applications for approval. If you have any questions, email the CAB chair and we’ll get right back to you!

What are the responsibilities of Community Advisory Board members?

We ask that members of the WMPG Community Advisory Board commit to a two-year term and attend three meetings a year (October, January, and April).  We ask that you consider the quality of WMPG’s programming, our goals, our policies and other ways the station engages within the community and share your thoughts with the WMPG Management Team.

There is also a commitment to spend 3-4 hours a month helping to get the work done relevant to our responsibilities. This time can be completed at your convenience.

Being a member of the CAB isn’t a lot of work. But it is a role that we hope members of community are excited to fill. After all, we are community radio. And that means we need to hear from our listeners to make sure we remain responsive to the ever-changing needs of the communities we serve.
