Hi, my name is Marianne O'Connor, but I like to go by "MA". I'm new to the Portland area, having moved here from NH over the summer. I'm semi-retired and live in Westbrook with my daughter.
My musical interests include punk, indie, old school rock and funk. I might go from the Flaming Lips one minute to Joni Mitchell the next. I have a soft spot for 70's music, like War, the O'Jays and the songs I grew up with. My parents played a lot of folk records when I was young, Dad was a Dylan fan and Mom loved Peter, Paul and Mary. But I also heard much of Tom Lehrer, Firesign Theatre and Pete Seeger. My father took me to my first concert when I was five: The Band with Levon Helm.
I became an on-air DJ at WJUL in 1986 when I attended UMass Lowell. I had a variety of different shows from 1986 to the early 90's--mostly punk shows.
I like hiking and being outside and I'm a Scrabble junkie. I published a book in 2008 titled "Haunted Hikes of New Hampshire," and you can catch me on the library circuit every October.
I'm excited to be part of WMPG!
