Jazz at the Movies presents Bix

WMPGs Jazz At The Movies and The Portland Conservatory of Music are proud to present the award-winning documentary BIX: “ain’t none of them play like him yet” about the amazing cornet player “Bix” Beiderbecke. He was the only musician Louis Armstrong regarded as an equal.

A child prodigy with a perfect ear, Bix’s  playing was bright and lyrical, and was as legendary as his drinking. Bix was the Jim Morrison and Kurt Cobain of his day. He started young and died young, from too much alcohol and as a fellow bandmate recalls, “too much life.” Bix only made it to 28 but he really packed in a lot, as the movie reveals through archival photographs, rare concert footage, and interviews with such jazz greats as Hoagy Carmichael, Louis Armstrong,  and Artie Shaw.

WMPG’s Jazz At The Movies is pleased to present BIX: “ain’t none of them play like him yet” as a tribute to one of Bix Beiderbeckes biggest fans, our friend the late Steve Halpert , a lifetime lover of jazz and cinema, and a valuable member of WMPG’s Jazz At The Movies.
