The Mama Afrika Show is a talk show which focuses on creating live, on air dialogues, a space where African Americans living in Maine are afforded an opportunity to share their own narratives, successes, perspectives, cultural experiences, and differing perspectives about living and growing up in Maine. These community dialogues are to enrich and provide an exchange of ideas, perspectives and experiences. Such dialogues will are powerful and transforming, crossing cultural gaps and misconceptions Africans & African Americans have about themselves and each other.
The Mama Afrika Show Dialogues will engage:
* African American Mainers- people who have lived in Maine for generations
* African Americans- who have lived in the United States for generations and moved to Maine from other parts of the country
* Newly arrived Africans and African refuges
* Emerging African American Youth -to challenge stereotypes about being Black/ African in America , to externalize (instead of internalizing) negative experiences associated with stereotypes and bias about who they are, or have been taught to believe about themselves.
