Underwriter Profile: Silly's

The first clue that there's something very unique about Silly's Restaurant may be the little red lunchbox on your table containing the Silly's menu, along with napkins and a game to keep you chatting and laughing while awaiting your meal. "Looking from table to table and seeing our guests smiling and playing... and communicating...is one of my very favorite things," says Silly's owner Colleen Kelley.

Another favorite thing? Cooking food that is fresh and interesting. Colleen describes the food at Silly's as "homespun eclectic, with twists and turns." From the 'WeeBee Jammin' jerk chicken or tofu dinner, to 'The Love Goat' chargrilled cheese pizza, to the 'Beans in the Belfry' brunch, it's all freshly prepared from scratch.

"We don't buy food, we make it."

At Silly's, virtually all of the food is homemade on site. The bread, the dressings, the sauces, the lamb/pork or tempeh sausages. Silly's makes everything except the tortillas from scratch, with ingredients that are sourced locally. On the extensive Silly's menu, the wide variety of choices makes it hard to decide, but there's something for everyone. Colleen strives to offer selections to satisfy diners seeking vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free options. And there are several choices just for kids. With the recent addition of Silly's With a Twist, there are also numerous options for beer, wine, sangria and spirits.

Local, local, local.

Locally-sourced food is just the beginning of Silly's commitment to the local community; Owner Colleen is committed to supporting local Maine family-owned businesses, as well. Their coffee comes from Coffee by Design, their laundry is done at Squeaky Clean, their bumper stickers come from Dale Rand Printing, and so on.

Silly's even listens local and is an ongoing supporter of WMPG as an underwriter, and by providing food and support to many of WMPG's fund-raising activities. In 2009, 2010 and 2011, Silly's was a WMPG Cajun Cookin' Challenge Champ. And Silly's is the proud recipient of Portland Phoenix awards for Best Service, Best Sandwich/Wrap, and Best Dessert.

Thanks to Silly's & Silly's with a Twist for their support of WMPG!
